CHUM Becomes First IASIOS Accredited Centre in Canada
The accreditation marks a major milestone for interventional oncology in Canada and highlights CHUM’s commitment to internationally recognised standards of patient care.

The International Accreditation System for Interventional Oncology Services (IASIOS) has announced that Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) is now the first IASIOS Accredited Centre in Canada. The recognition represents an important step in the continued growth of interventional oncology standards across North America and strengthens Canada’s role in advancing high-quality cancer care.
CHUM’s accreditation reflects its commitment to safe, standardised, and patient-focused interventional oncology services. Interventional oncology uses minimally invasive, image-guided treatments that work alongside surgery, systemic therapies, and radiation therapy, helping deliver more precise and personalised care. As one of Canada’s leading academic hospitals, CHUM continues to play a key role in multidisciplinary cancer treatment.
By achieving accreditation, CHUM has demonstrated compliance with the international requirements set out in the CIRSE Standards of Quality Assurance in Interventional Oncology. These standards cover staff and facilities, treatment planning and delivery, and safety and quality systems. Together, they provide a framework that supports consistency, efficiency, and the best possible patient outcomes.
As the first accredited centre in Canada, CHUM sets an example for other hospitals looking to strengthen their interventional oncology services. The accreditation process has been led by Ricardo Holderbaum Do Amaral, Assistant Clinical Professor at the Université de Montréal and Interventional Radiologist at CHUM, supporting the centre’s continued development of a structured and advanced IO pathway.
Dr. Ricardo Amaral said the accreditation recognises the dedication of CHUM’s teams and their commitment to excellence in care.
