Plaidberry offers tastes of Scotland, mythical berry
Dennis G. Dickson, born July 4, 1956, immigrated from Canada to Southern California with his family, at 15 years of age, he became acquainted with his family recipe for Plaidberry preserves. Plaidberry is truly the best of all fruit flavors. Its unique taste was introduced in 1876, by Dennis's great, great, great uncle Henry Dickson. It was Henry's hometown of Dumfries that was first to sample his delicious mixture in preserves and pies. When neighbors would ask Henry for his recipe, he'd just smile and tell them of a strange plaid-colored berry that he had discovered in the highlands of Scotland - That family tradition continues.
Plaidberry preserves are still cooked in small batches, much as they were in 1876 when Henry Dickson first poured his incredible discovery into a waiting jar and history was made. Dennis Dickson won three gold medals at the Southern California Exposition with his plaidberry preserves. "Letters from as far away as England and South Africa have been sent to us requesting regular shipments of the stuff that would make a crumpet proud. Sure, it's more expensive bottling preserves of this quality, but people all over the world have discovered plaidberry preserves and muffins -- just the way Henry Dickson would have liked it," said Dickson.
